JULY 2023 EMBOLUS A M S A E V E N T S A D V O C A C Y WELCOME Welcome to the July 2023 edition of the Embolus. Here, we’ll be updating you on the upcoming AMSA events and summarise the advocacy achievements of AMSA. UPCOMING: AMSA Rural Health Summit 2023 Held at Darwin this year, this event will provide a diverse and invigorating timeline of academic sessions, social events and upskilling workshops to encourage budding or continued interest in rural health. The theme for this year’s RHS event is “Rural Medicine: Frontier of Healthcare Delivery”. Dates: 31/08/2023 - 03/09/2023 COMPLETED EVENTS COUNCIL 2 8 policies were reviews at Council 2 2023. Harm Minimisation in Substance Use LGBTQIASB+ Health Climate Change and Health Refugee and Asylum Seeker Health National Executive 2024 Core Team Congratulations to the new AMSA Core 4 team on their successful election during Council 2. Allen Xiao (President) Luke van Jager (National Treasurer) Jade Guitera (Vice President External) Julia Goh (Vice President Internal) National Convention The 2023 AMSA National Convention was held at Gold Coast and was a week filled with brilliant academic sessions, social events and upskilling workshops. The upcoming 2024 AMSA convention will be held at Melbourne. AMSA ADVOCACY AMSA Public Statement AMSA has decided to disaffiliate from MDA National. As you may be aware, MDA National made a recent policy change to exclude cover for doctors providing gender-affirming medical therapies for people under 18 in the community. As outlined in our public statement, AMSA believes this policy change is in direct opposition with our stance and our LGBTQIASB+ Health (2023) policy, as voted by you - our members.
