AIRCRAFT REGRISTRY OVERVIEW
Other offshore registries available in Europe include the Isle
of Man (M-), San Marino (T7-) and Guernsey (2-) which had
a combined 182 Europe-based jets registered, or 42% of the
offshore registered fleet in Europe. These registries have also
proven popular with owners and operators outside of Europe,
particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. For the Europe-based fleet,
the number of San Marino registered jets has been on the rise
since the end of 2020, with a significant 58% increase during
2022 to 49 aircraft. The number of Guernsey registered jets based
in Europe increased by 50% year-on-year to 36 by the end of 2022.
On the other hand, the number of Isle of Man registered jets in
Europe has decresed by almost 13% since the end of 2020.
The traditionally popular offshore registries from Bermuda (VP-B
and VQ-B), the Cayman Islands (VP-C) and Aruba (P4-) had minor
presence in the offshore registered fleet in Europe. There were just
56 Europe-based jets across these three registries at the end of
2022, which has been quite consistent over the past three years.
Some 38% of offshore registered business jets in Europe were
in the Long Range category, 18% Large Jets and 5% Corporate
Airliners. The smaller size categories took the minor shares in
offshore registration, with the Very Light category taking an 8%
share with just 36 jets.
The United States (N) register is also popular in the European
fleet, with a 14% year-on-year increase since the end of 2021 to
139 aircraft. N- registered aircraft have the advantage of ease of
transaction compared to some local registers.
