The program was made possible through the
generous financial support of our board member
the RELX Group and was carried out in partnership
with the MCI Management Centre Innsbruck and
their summer school program. This year, the summer
school’s focus lay on “Entrepreneurship for Sustainable
Development”. Additional expert workshops
coordinated by the BKMC focused on the topics of
marketing, sustainable businesses, and fundraising
and resource mobilization, further developing the
scholars’ skill sets. As the final outcome, each scholar
implemented their own SDG Micro-Project over a
6-month period, identifying a problem within their
local community and working towards a sustainable
solution.
The SDG Micro-Projects carried out by this year’s
scholars with the support of seed funding ranged
from awareness raising about cervical cancer through
community outreaches in Rwanda to capturing
mental health stories through photography in
Kenya, as well as training young people to build
with local construction materials for disaster risk
reduction in Burkina Faso. The projects addressed
15 different SDGs and reached over 1,040 people in
local communities directly.
