GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT &
EMPOWERMENT FORUM
The Global Engagement & Empowerment Forum
(GEEF) is a crucial platform to explore and promote
global partnerships and turn crises into opportunities
for our common future.
Hosted at the Yonsei University on February 2-3, 2023,
the event examined the progress at the mid-point of
the SDGs under the theme “Turning Point: From Crisis
into Opportunity”.
In the special conversation “Leaving no one behind
in our post-pandemic recovery”, BKMC Co-chairs
Ban Ki-moon and Heinz Fischer urged generations
to work together for our common future. They spoke
about the state of the world including topics such
as climate, sustainability, global citizenship, gender
equality, youth empowerment, US-China relations,
Ukraine, and many more.
The forum was co-moderated by BKMC CEO Monika
Froehler, who summarized the overall input and
outcome as “artistic, scientific, innovative, and
research- and education-oriented”.
Moreover, the BKMC hosted a virtual panel discussion
on “Greening Education in a Time of Climate Crisis”.
Ahead of COP28, the all-women panel encouraged
stakeholders to support UNESCO’s Greening
Education Partnership and illustrated international
pathways and opportunities for greening education
from Europe, the US, the Middle East, and Africa.
4GAMECHANGERS FESTIVAL
On May 16, 2023, the BKMC featured for the second
time at the 4GameChangers Festival. In a Fireside
Chat on “4Future Day”, the spotlight fell on the
BKMC’s work to foster leadership for the implementation
of the SDGs and the Paris Climate
Agreement by inspiring current decision-makers and
empowering the next generation of changemakers.
The Q&A between Co-chair Heinz Fischer and CEO
Monika Froehler, following a video statement from
Co-chair Ban Ki-moon, laid the foundation for
discussions on the work of the BKMC, highlighting
good leadership in the 21 st -century, and empowering
youth who are making a difference in their
communities by showcasing successful SDG Micro-
Projects from four BKMC alumni.
