ACCELERATOR FUND
Goal:
Provide resources and funds to BKMC alumni
to scale and accelerate the impact of their SDG
Micro-Projects.
Key Partners:
Ban Ki-moon Foundation, New York, USA
There is a lack of financial resources available for
emerging young intersectional leadership addressing
the implementation of the SDGs and sustainable
development across the world. Particularly, efforts
led by historically excluded communities on the
Latin American, African, and Asian continents are
underfunded.
Therefore, the “Accelerator Fund for Grassroots and
Transnational Leadership” aims at providing seed
grants to support grassroots leaders who are making
waves for the SDGs; non-profits advancing local
efforts via cross-sector partnerships that accelerate
local progress toward the SDGs; and collaboration
among grassroots leaders and networks between
regions and countries on similar issues of transnational
concern.
Joining forces, the Accelerator Fund is a cooperative
program between the BKMC and its sister organization,
the Ban Ki-moon Foundation in New York.
To ensure that the fund is distributed based on
just, meaningful, and transparent criteria, the BKMC
Network decided to collaborate closely with a
committee of eight BKMC changemakers alumni on
key decisions throughout the entire grant-making
process.
During the first grant cycle open only to BKMC
alumni, the fund received an outstanding 33 nominations
including various projects within the piloting,
full implementation, and scaling phases on issues
including food security, quality education, gender
equality, infrastructure, and climate change. The
winners will be announced in Spring 2024.
At its core, this program strengthens the
BKMC’s mission to foster leadership towards the
implementation of the SDGs and facilitates global
partnerships whilst actively furthering the philanthropic
agency of young changemakers. The
BKMC is already exploring the possibility of further
collaboration for future grant cycles.
