ENGAGEMENTS IN NEW YORK
In 2023, the BKMC further intensified their close
collaboration with the Ban Ki-moon Foundation
(BKMF) in New York. In March, BKMF Executive Director
Kate Landon visited Vienna as part of the BKMF’s
advisory board.
In July, as part of the HLPF, the BKMC and the BKMF
jointly hosted a high-level event at the Austrian
Cultural Forum New York, featuring a stellar panel of
women leaders coming together for a cross-sector
discussion on “Inspiring Female Leadership for the
SDGs”. Moderated by CEO Monika Froehler, women
leaders from government, the private sector,
philanthropy, and academia debated how women’s
power must be leveraged to truly achieve the global
goals.
During New York Climate Week, which ran in parallel
with the UN General Assembly and the SDG Summit
in September, former COO Katrin Harvey was again
part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s
Goalkeepers. She participated in several Goalkeepersrelated
events where she met inspiring partners
and experts from all around the world. On the SDG
weekend, former COO Katrin Harvey was able to sit
in sessions at the UN Headquarters, discussing
climate change and agriculture, as well as climate
finance solutions. She spoke at Nature4Climate’s
Nature Positive Hub about women’s leadership,
participated in the CEO’s Roundtable to Unlock the
Future of the Next Generation Fellows, and was part
of the WWF’s Action Labs around Climate Financing.
CEO Monika Froehler participated at the BKMF’s
board meeting in October 2023. During the October
events in New York, BKMC Co-chair Ban Ki-moon and
CEO Monika Froehler engaged in several meetings
with local leaders and changemakers, including
current UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and
students from high schools, universities, and graduate
programs in the New York tri-state region who are
passionate about the SDGs.
