v that the applicant and their <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> partner are intending to live in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong><br />

for the same period of time.<br />

b. If requested by an immigration officer, applicants must also provide a written declaration<br />

from their <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> partner confirming<br />

i they are eligible to support; or<br />

ii they comply with the minimum requirements for recognition of partnerships (see<br />

E4.1.15b and F2.15).<br />

V3.20 Dependent children of <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> citizens or residence class visa<br />

holders<br />

a. Dependent children of <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> citizens or residence class visa holders may be<br />

granted a visitor visa authorising a maximum stay of 9 months from their date of arrival,<br />

provided that:<br />

i the parent intends to stay in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> during the same period of time applied for<br />

by the dependent child; and<br />

ii the parent supports the application.<br />

b. If dependent children apply to stay longer than 9 months, immigration officers may<br />

consider granting further visas allowing a total stay of up to 2 years as long as the<br />

requirements of paragraph (a) above continue to be met.<br />

V3.20.1 Evidence for dependent children of <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> citizens or residence class<br />

visa holders<br />

<strong>Immigration</strong> officers must sight evidence of the following:<br />

a. the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> citizenship or <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> residence status of the applicant's parent;<br />

and<br />

b. documents that confirm the applicant's relationship with the parent; and<br />

c. that the applicant and parent are intending to stay in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> during the same period<br />

of time; and<br />

d. that the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> parent supports the application.<br />

V3.25 Children entering <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> for adoption<br />

Effective 29/11/2010<br />

a. Children entering <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> to be adopted by <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> citizens or residence class<br />

visa holders under the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> Adoption Act 1955 may be granted a temporary visa<br />

authorising an initial stay of a maximum of 6 months.<br />

b. An application for children entering <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> for adoption must include:<br />

i evidence of the support of the Ministry of Social Development’s Child, Youth and<br />

Family Services; and<br />

ii the child's birth certificate; and<br />

iii evidence of the immigration status or <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> citizenship of the adoptive parents.<br />

c. <strong>Immigration</strong> officers may also waive, by special direction, the funds and onward travel and<br />

health requirements for the children.
