completed by their sponsor.<br />

V2.30 Waiver of funds and/or sponsorship requirements and/or tickets for<br />

visitor visa applications<br />

<strong>Immigration</strong> officers with Schedule 3 delegations and above may waive the requirements for<br />

funds and/or sponsorship and/or airline tickets in the case of applicants for visitor visas such<br />

as, but not limited to, the following:<br />

a. tour group applicants for whom the sponsoring agency has confirmed that all applicants<br />

will have sufficient funds and return tickets;<br />

b. government officials travelling on business, if they are officially supported by their home<br />

government;<br />

Note: <strong>Immigration</strong> officers in non-INZ offices should request a special direction for<br />

government officials in every case from an officer with the required authority at an INZ<br />

branch.<br />

c. genuine business travellers, if they are formally supported by their employer;<br />

d. genuine tourists, if the immigration officer is satisfied that:<br />

i they are genuine tourists; and<br />

ii they have made a suitable declaration as to funds and tickets on the application form;<br />

e. the partner and dependants of a work visa holder, if the employer is a guarantor (see<br />

W2.15) or the work visa holder has sufficient funds or income for their maintenance and<br />

repatriation;<br />

f. the partner and dependants of a student visa holder on a scholarship, if the scholarship<br />

guarantees maintenance and repatriation of the partner and dependants;<br />

g. residence applicants, if the officer is confident that the application for residence is likely to<br />

succeed.<br />

V2.35 Short-term study in schools<br />

a. Visitor visa holders can study without the need to obtain a student visa or a variation of<br />

conditions if they attend primary, intermediate, secondary, or composite school for a<br />

single period of study of up to three months per calendar year. The single period of study:<br />

i must start and finish within a calendar year; and<br />

ii must not be in term 1 if a visitor visa was held and a single period of study was<br />

undertaken in term 4 of the previous year.<br />

b. Visitor visa holders undertaking a single period of study in (a) above must attend a school<br />

that is a signatory to the Ministry of Education's Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of<br />

International Students, if at least one of the following applies:<br />

i they attend for more than two weeks; or<br />

ii they are fee-paying foreign students.
