c. Before granting a visitor visa, immigration officers must be satisfied that the applicant's<br />

partner or parent:<br />

i holds a military visa; or<br />

ii is eligible to be granted a military visa; or<br />

iii is deemed to be granted a military visa.<br />

V3.125.1 Partners of military visa holders<br />

a. Partners of military visa holders must prove to the satisfaction of an immigration officer<br />

that:<br />

i they are living together with their partner in a genuine and stable partnership at the<br />

time their application is made; and<br />

ii they comply with the minimum requirements for recognition of partnerships (see<br />

E4.1.10 and F2.15); and<br />

iii their partner supports the application.<br />

b. Evidence of the applicant’s relationship to the military visa holder must be provided in the<br />

following forms:<br />

i evidence of their relationship with their partner; and<br />

ii evidence that demonstrates they are living together with that partner in a genuine and<br />

stable partnership at the time their application is made. (F2.20 sets out the types of<br />

evidence that are required).<br />

a. Visiting academics from countries whose nationals are people to whom a visa waiver<br />

applies (see E2.1), may be granted a three-month visitor visa and entry permission on<br />

arrival in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>.<br />

b. Visiting academics from countries whose nationals are required to hold a visitor visa to<br />

travel to <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> must apply for a visitor visa before travelling to <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>.<br />

c. Visiting academics must apply for a work visa prior to travelling to <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> if they<br />

wish to:<br />

i stay in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong> for longer than three months; or<br />

ii make multiple visits with a total duration of more than three months in any calendar<br />

year; or<br />

iii undertake any activity that would be fall within the definition of work and is not listed<br />

at (f) below.<br />

d. Applicants must provide a letter of invitation from the Tertiary Education Institute or<br />

Institutes where they plan to undertake academic work, confirming:<br />

i the name of the applicant; and<br />

ii that the applicant is a person specified at (e) below; and<br />

iii the activity or activities the applicant will undertake while in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Zealand</strong>; and
