AUTO FLIGHT - FLIGHT GUIDANCE<br />

AP/FD VERTICAL MODES - OPEN CLIMB MODE<br />

GENERAL<br />

The OPEN CLB mode is a selected mode. It uses the AP/FD pitch mode to maintain a SPD/MACH<br />

(selected or managed) while the autothrust (if active) maintains maximum climb thrust.<br />

Applicable to: MSN 0014-0043<br />

ENGAGEMENT CONDITIONS<br />

The OPEN CLB mode can only be engaged, if all of the following conditions are met:<br />

‐ The aircraft is in flight for more than 5 s<br />

‐ The LAND mode is not engaged<br />

‐ The FCU selected altitude is higher than the aircraft’s present altitude.<br />

The OPEN CLB mode is engaged, if one of the following conditions occurs:<br />

‐ The flight crew pulls out the ALT knob<br />

‐ The flight crew pulls out the SPD/MACH knob, when TOGA mode is engaged<br />

‐ Acceleration altitude is reached, with CLB armed, and NAV mode not engaged<br />

‐ Loss of NAV mode or vertical F-PLN when CLB mode is engaged (Refer to DSC-22_30-75<br />

General).<br />

ALT mode is systematically armed when OPEN CLB engages.<br />

Applicable to: MSN 0970-1002<br />

ENGAGEMENT CONDITIONS<br />

The OPEN CLB mode can only be engaged, if all of the following conditions are met:<br />

‐ The aircraft is in flight for more than 5 s<br />

‐ The LAND mode is not engaged<br />

‐ The FCU selected altitude is higher than the aircraft’s present altitude.<br />

The OPEN CLB mode is engaged, if one of the following conditions occurs:<br />

‐ The flight crew pulls out the ALT knob<br />

‐ The flight crew pulls out the SPD/MACH knob, when TOGA mode is engaged<br />

‐ Acceleration altitude is reached, with CLB armed, and NAV mode not engaged<br />

‐ Loss of NAV mode or vertical F-PLN when CLB mode is engaged. The reversion to OPEN CLB is<br />

accompanied by a triple click aural warning (Refer to DSC-22_30-75 General).<br />

ALT mode is systematically armed when OPEN CLB engages.<br />
