Analogue broadcasting is set
to be phased-out on a Europe-wide
basis by 2012. In the
meantime, almost all TV production
has become digitalized. The same is
largely true for digital TV receivers.
Already by the first half of 2007,
LCD flat screen televisions, in many
cases often set up to receive high
resolution HDTV broadcasts, were
outselling CRT televisions for the
first time. The trend toward a large
area with sharp pictures has persisted
through to the second half of
2008. Moreover, many of the LCD
televisions can also receive terrestrial
digital broadcasts directly. Premium

the means of digital transmission
available, the digital satellite television
has demonstrated the highest
grade digitalization to date. Admittedly,
analogue broadcasts are still
being transmitted by satellite, but
the rate of digitalization is growing
as we speak.
