deals chiefly with Gobineau's theories of racial primacy and of
aristocracy, with digressions in which he aims bungling sarcasm at the
poor god of the nineteenth century, or assails H. S. Chamberlain, or
expatiates on the blunders of the 'the hopeless Nazarene.' These
topics, and many others, have nothing to do with 'The Renaissance.' "
