11 February
Joint programme of the State Hermitage
Museum and the Philips Company following
the signing of the Agreement of Cooperation
for the year 2010. The Agreement outlines
a project for the architectural illumination
of the Alexander Column as well as renovations
of the lighting system in the Jordan Gallery
and one of the halls of the Winter Palace.
The Agreement was signed by Prof. Mikhail
Piotrovsky and Joost Leeflang, CEO of Philips
in Russia.
18 March
The State Hermitage Museum and the Creative
Association of Museum Employees of
St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region held
a round table entitled Friends of the Museums
Today – Aspects of Cooperation and Opportunities
for Further Development. The meeting was attended
by 24 representatives from 16 museums
of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
Following the discussion, the Hermitage
Friends’ Club shared experience with museum
colleagues and invited all participants of the
round table to take part in the evening programme
for the Hermitage Friends, Hermitage
Mosaics.
18 March
Meeting entitled The Hermitage Mosaics offered
the Friends thematic tours of the museum
expositions guided by the curators of the Hermitage.
All tours were unique programmes
prepared specially for this event.
31 May
Final event of the season 2009/2010. The Hermitage
Friends were the first visitors of the
unique exhibition “The Wind in the Pines…”
5,000 Years of Korean Art. Dr. Tatiana Arapova,
curator of the exhibition, told guests about the
unique objects from the collection of the National
Museum of Korea which were displayed
at the exhibition.
25–29 June
This year the traditional Gala Banquet in the
Winter Palace was attended by 25 representatives
of the Hermitage Museum Foundation
(USA). A special programme, Monday at the
Hermitage, was organized for them during
their stay in St. Petersburg. The programme
included a tour of the museum, visit to the
storage of Russian porcelain and the Staraya
Devervnya Restoration, Conservation and Storage
Centre.

5 and 19 August
Joint events of the State Hermitage Museum,
the Consulate General of the Republic of
Korea in St. Petersburg and the World Club
of Petersburgers were held in the spirit of
celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment
of diplomatic relations between the
Russian Federation and the Republic of Korea.
On August 5 guests visited the exhibition
“The Wind in the Pines…” 5,000 Years of Korean
Art and attended a charity performance by an
Opening of the new season in the Hermitage Friends’ Club.
The dance performance True Style by the “Ed physical theatre”
ensemble of musicians from the charity organization
Krasota Dushi which benefits hospice
children and orphans. On August 19 a visit to
the exhibition and a reception in the Winter
Palace of Peter the Great were held for the
Russian and Korean business community.
6 September
Joint event of the State Hermitage Museum
and the Hennessy Cognac House, a Corporate
Member of the Hermitage Friends’ Club,
Round table Friends of the Museum Today – Aspects of Cooperation
and Opportunities for Further Development
was devoted to the closing of the exhibition
Picasso. From the Collection of the Picasso National
Museum – Paris. It was organized for the Hermitage
Friends and guests of the Hennessy
Cognac House. The event included a reception
in the Jordan Gallery and a visit to the
exhibition.
28 September
Press-briefing dedicated to the launching
of a joint grant internship programme with
the Coca-Cola Company for conservators of
the State Hermitage Museum. At the end
of the press conference journalists visited the
Laboratories for Scientific Restoration of Tempera,
Easel Painting and Precious Metals in the
Staraya Derevnya Restoration, Conservation
and Storage Centre.
6 October
Opening of the new 2010/2011 season in
the Hermitage Friends’ Club. The evening
programme included the official opening
of contemporary art festival The Hermitage
Week of the Pompidou Centre in the Hermitage
Theatre. At the opening of the festival,
the Friends were shown video installations
by Pierrick Sorin, Vero Goyo and Jerome
Lefdup, followed by the dance performance
True Style by the “Ed physical theatre” in the
Hermitage Theatre.
11 November
Presentation of the results of the joint project
Restoration of the “Adoration of the Magi” Triptych
by the prominent fifteenth-century Dutch art-
ist Hugo van der Goes was held by the State
Hermitage Museum in cooperation with the
National Reserve Bank. The Hermitage specialists
made a presentation on the complicated
conservation treatment of the painting.
The evening programme also included a performance
by soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre
accompanied by the State Hermitage Orchestra
in the Hermitage Theatre, followed by
a reception in the Winter Palace of Peter the
Great.

23 November
Presentation of the results of conservation
projects implemented in cooperation with
Japan Tobacco International, a Corporate
Member of the Hermitage Friends’ Club.
The evening programme included a talk
by the museum conservators about interesting
and complicated conservation of the unique
museum objects, as well as tours of the exhibition
on the history of Russian culture of the
first quarter of the 19th century. It was followed
by a reception in the Winter Palace of
Peter the Great.
8 December
International Hermitage Friends’ Day. Hermitage
Friends from around the world are annually
invited to the museum for this celebration.
This year the evening began with a presentation
of the new lighting system for the angel
on the Alexander Column in Palace Square,
which was developed by Philips Company. During
the traditional evening walk through the
museum Hermitage Friends were shown new
exhibitions opened specially for the Hermitage
Days. The collection shown at the exhibition
Urartu Artifacts: New Acquisitions was given
to the Hermitage by the collector Torkom
Demirjian with support from the Hermitage
Museum Foundation (USA).
The traditional welcome of Prof. Mikhail Piotrovsky,
ceremony of Honorary Diplomas bestowed
on the Sponsors of the State Hermitage
Museum, and a concert of the State Hermitage
Orchestra took place at the Hermitage Theatre.
The evening programme ended with cocktails
in the beautifully lit Jordan Gallery.
