and The sTaTe
The international conference, devoted to the problems of
cooperation of museums and governmental institutions,
continued a series of conferences and meetings of leading
representatives of the museum community, which have
been held at the State Hermitage Museum since 2006 with
the participation of the directors of the world most important
museums, representatives of municipal and federal
governmental institutions and ministries of Russia and other
countries. The talks given covered topics of the primary
significance, concerning the development of museums in
today’s economic and legal situation. The issues discussed
included museum economics, museum activities and their
financing, preservation of cultural heritage, the role of the
state and the museum in the reconstruction of museum
and the problems of restoration of Russian

the Department of the History of Russian
Culture and the Laboratory for scientific
Restoration of Graphic Works of the Department
of scientific Restoration and
Conservation of the state Hermitage.
It was the fist specialized seminar of restorers
and curators held in the Hermitage

visited laboratories of the Department of
scientific Restoration and Conservation
of the Hermitage Museum, including the
Laboratories for scientific Restoration of

Works, where they were shown the equipment
of the workshops and the restoration

for a discussion among representatives of governmental
