One of the capital pieces of the <strong>Weber</strong> Collection<br />

" <strong>The</strong> presence of Pelops on a Himeraean coin might be explained as referring<br />

to the Olympic victory gained by Ergoteles of Himera in B. C. 472 (Pind., 01. xn)<br />

for Pelops was especially revered as the restorer of the Olympic festival." (Head,<br />

Hist. Num., 191 1, p. 145).<br />

IMEPAION. Naked horseman riding sideways, about to spring from<br />

galloping horse ; he holds reins in r., and whip in 1. : circle of dots.<br />

J$L. ZOTHP r. Nymph Himera stands facing with head to 1. ; wears<br />

chiton with short sleeves and peplos ; she is sacrificing at flam-<br />

ing altar 1. ; to r., caduceus erect. — Didrachm.<br />
