Tradition had it that it was founded by Segestos, a son of a Trojan<br />

maiden by the River-god Krimissos in the form of a dog . <strong>The</strong> Seges-<br />

tans were engaged from the earliest times in continual hostilities with<br />

the Selinuntines, tuhich gave occasion for the intervention of Athens in<br />

Sicilian affairs and later to the invasion of the Carthaginians in B. C-<br />
