Cooling system<br />
With gasoline most of the energy (about 70%) is<br />
converted into heat from the effects of friction and<br />
<strong>com</strong>bustion. The cooling system must keep the engine<br />
from overheating, obviously, but it should also be<br />
efficient, allowing the engine to operate within a tight<br />
temperature range to reduce friction.<br />
Water pump<br />
Water pump requirements, like other <strong>com</strong>ponents, are<br />
be<strong>com</strong>ing more exact and demanding; pump rates,<br />
pressures and fluid flow paths contribute to the efficient<br />
operating temp of the engine, and provide precise<br />
cooling performance.<br />
Water pumps have been constantly improved through<br />
the years, but due to the aggressive operating<br />
environment of the engine, a water pump replacement<br />
will most likely be performed sometime during the life<br />
of a motor vehicle. Today, they are very often an integral<br />
part of the timing drive system.<br />
