A PEP volunteer shares a moment with a student<br />

(SARC) assists <strong>com</strong>mands in implementing<br />

and administering sexual<br />

assault awareness, prevention education,<br />

victim advocacy and data collection.<br />

The intervention portion of the<br />

program is designed to support victims<br />

and their families as they deal with the<br />

many issues following sexual assault<br />

trauma.<br />

New Parent<br />

Support Program<br />

The FFSC registered nurse provides<br />

hospital visitation, in-home services<br />

and support for all eligible military families<br />

assigned to Pax <strong>River</strong> who are<br />

expecting a baby or have a child under<br />

five months old. Services include infant<br />

education classes, breast pump loan<br />

locker and parenting classes. NPS also<br />

provides and supports four lactation<br />

stations at various sites on station for<br />

the exclusive use of nursing mothers<br />

who are returning to work after the<br />

birth of their babies.<br />

Deployment<br />

Support<br />

The FFSC offers deployment support<br />

programs for the deploying detachments<br />

located in the Pax <strong>River</strong> area.<br />

The goal is to enhance the Navy’s mission<br />

by reducing personal and family<br />

At Your Service<br />

emergencies that may occur during<br />

deployments and assisting single and<br />

married service members and their families<br />

in successfully managing deployments<br />

before, during and after the<br />

deployments occur.<br />

Education and<br />

Training<br />

The FFSC’s professional facilitators<br />

and presenters offer workshops and<br />

seminars on topics such as stress management,<br />

financial planning, house<br />

buying, estate planning, parenting, couples<br />

<strong>com</strong>munication, relocation and job<br />

skills. Programs are offered at the FFSC<br />

and at <strong>com</strong>mand locations.<br />

Employment and<br />

Career Resources<br />

Finding a job is often one of the<br />

greatest concerns for military family<br />

members relocating to a new area.<br />

The Transition Assistance<br />

Management Program and Spouse<br />

Employment Assistance Program provide<br />

a variety of services and a wide<br />

range of workshops. These include:<br />

resume writing, cover letters, 10 Steps<br />

to a federal job, interviewing, networking,<br />

job search strategies and many<br />

more. Employment counselors are<br />

available, by appointment, to critique<br />

resumes, practice job interviewing, and<br />

assist with marketing individual skills.<br />

•Computer Resource Room (CRR)<br />

•The CRR is available for job searching<br />

on the Internet, resume formatting<br />

and federal applications software<br />

programs. The CRR also has a<br />

telephone, copy machine and facsimile<br />

available for client use.<br />

Transition Assistance<br />

Program (TAP)<br />

Whether separating from the military<br />

or about to retire, TAP provides individual<br />

transition counseling and a fourday<br />

workshop.<br />

Transitioning military members and<br />

their spouses will receive information<br />

concerning benefits, interviewing skills,<br />

resume writing and salary negotiation<br />

when they use the TAP program.<br />

Spouse Employment<br />

Assistance Program (SEAP)<br />

Relocating for family members does<br />

not always mean starting over. DoD<br />

recognizes that spouses have difficulties<br />

maintaining careers due to constant<br />

relocation. The SEAP counselor is available<br />

by appointment to assist in providing<br />

valuable resources regarding<br />

portable careers, resume writing, federal<br />

applications and other job-related<br />

skills and techniques.<br />
