and party sites ideal for enjoying the<br />

great outdoors with friends, family and coworkers.<br />

Chesapeake Bay and <strong>Patuxent</strong> <strong>River</strong> and<br />

feature grills and picnic tables. Playgrounds<br />

are available throughout the station.<br />

MWR provides points of contact for<br />

a number of private clubs at the station.<br />

These clubs include golf associations,<br />

skeet club, sailing club, rod and gun<br />

club, and many more organizations.<br />

Rassieur Youth<br />

The Rassieur Youth Center, named after<br />

<strong>Patuxent</strong> <strong>River</strong>’s first <strong>com</strong>manding officer,<br />

schedules special events, trips and parties<br />

for station youth. The center is a popular<br />

place for youth who may also enjoy the<br />

outdoor pool, which is located next door.<br />

The center also sponsors the School Age<br />

Recreation & Leisure<br />

Care program, which provides care for<br />

children before and after the school day.<br />

Youth are encouraged to stop by the<br />

center to use the reading and <strong>com</strong>puter<br />

center, try their hand at arts and crafts and<br />

enjoy the game tables available at the<br />

center. The Youth Center is also a Boys<br />

and Girls Clubs of America affiliate.<br />

Rental Equipment<br />

MWR rents a variety of equipment to<br />

station residents and employees.<br />

Equipment includes a moon bounce,<br />

dunking booth, giant BBQ grill, campers,<br />

rototillers, car dollies, tables and chairs.<br />

Swimming Pools<br />

The station boasts a 50-meter, eight-lane<br />

Olympic-size outdoor pool and an indoor<br />

pool in the drill hall. The outdoor pool is<br />

located next to the Rassieur Youth Center<br />

and is open for fitness and recreation<br />

swimming during the summer months.<br />

The indoor pool is open year round for fitness<br />

and recreation swimming. MWR<br />

sponsors swimming lessons, aqua-aerobics<br />

and athletic contests as part of its aquatics<br />

program. The outdoor pool may be rented<br />

for parties and other functions. Active-duty<br />

and retired military, reserves, their family<br />

members and DoD employees with<br />

Civilian Recreation Association membership<br />

are eligible to use MWR pools.<br />

Wood Hobby Shop<br />

The Wood Hobby Shop features all<br />

the necessary tools and equipment<br />

for <strong>com</strong>pleting a limitless range of<br />

woodcrafting projects. At this facility,<br />

patrons learn the craft under the watchful<br />

eye of skilled woodcraft specialists. Activeduty<br />

and retired military, reserves, DoD<br />

employees and family members (18 years<br />

or older), and contractors are eligible to<br />

use the Wood Hobby Shop.<br />

Navy Recreation<br />

The Navy Recreation Center at Solomons<br />

gives patrons much more than ac<strong>com</strong>modations.<br />

The NRC offers a full range of leisure<br />

activities and fun for the entire family. In season,<br />

patrons may find much to do including<br />

the Adventure Zone Recreation Center featuring<br />

a TV lounge, arcade and gear issue.<br />

The center hosts a variety of special events<br />

including contests, tournaments, outdoor<br />

movie nights, a 5K run series, outdoor concerts,<br />

and many youth activities. Workshops<br />

include arts and crafts, painting and other<br />

creative ideas and volleyball courts and<br />

horseshoe pits are located throughout the<br />

facility. The NRC also offers patrons a miniature<br />

golf course and driving range. The<br />

<strong>River</strong>side aquatics <strong>com</strong>plex maintains four<br />

swimming pools to suit any member of the<br />

family from toddlers to retirees, two water<br />

powered slides, and swimming lessons are<br />

available for beginner, intermediate and<br />

advanced swimmers. The Point Patience<br />

Marina rents annual and transient slips<br />

featuring electric and water hookups, and<br />

offers a boat ramp for launching personal<br />

watercraft. The 614 ft. long, 25 ft. wide,<br />

Sunset Pier is suitable for fishing and<br />

crabbing, and the <strong>River</strong>side Beach offers 400<br />

feet of shoreline, sandy beaches and a<br />

designated swimming area plus beach boat<br />

rentals. Picnic sites, outdoor pavilions, and<br />

ball fields are also available.<br />

Temporary ac<strong>com</strong>modations are also<br />

available at the Navy Recreation Center.<br />

Reservations are required and may be made<br />

by calling 410-286-7415/6 or 1-800-628-9230.<br />

Lodging facilities include 15 apartments,<br />

14 cottages, 21 bungalows, 10 log cabins<br />

and four cozy cabins.<br />

Three-hundred-and-six campsites feature<br />

146 sites with full hookups; 158 with<br />

electricity and water; 55 primitive sites; and<br />

14 group sites. There is a 10-day maximum<br />

in-season stay, monthly off-season; and<br />

camping and yurts are available monthly<br />

and year-round. The NRC is open<br />
