Discovery Science filming at Pax <strong>River</strong><br />
who return to school full-time. N-MCRS<br />
also conducts a Budget for Baby class<br />
each month at the Fleet and Family<br />
Support Center. Class attendees receive<br />
information regarding financial planning<br />
and budgeting pertaining to families<br />
with children. At the conclusion of<br />
the class each family in attendance<br />
receives a “Junior Seabag” filled with<br />
baby items, as a gift from the society<br />
valued at over $100 to wel<strong>com</strong>e their<br />
newborn. This program is open to all<br />
Sailors and Marines regardless of rank.<br />
The N-MCRS office, located in<br />
Building 401, is staffed primarily by<br />
trained volunteers, and is open from 8<br />
a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through<br />
Thursday by appointment. Call for<br />
more information, to make an appointment,<br />
or inquire about volunteering.<br />

Assistance Program. For after-hours<br />

Public Affairs<br />

The Public Affairs Office, located on<br />
the second floor of Building 409, is<br />
responsible for internal information,<br />
media relations, <strong>com</strong>munity relations<br />
and review of non-technical material<br />
intended for public release. The Public<br />
Affairs officer is the official<br />
spokespersons for NAWCAD and NAS<br />
<strong>Patuxent</strong> <strong>River</strong>. Any official contacts<br />
with off-station news media, speeches<br />
or other types of presentations to<br />
<strong>com</strong>munity organizations or groups<br />
must first be coordinated with the<br />
Public Affairs Office.<br />
The Public Affairs Office serves the<br />
entire <strong>Patuxent</strong> <strong>River</strong> <strong>com</strong>plex with a<br />
variety of information media, including<br />
its award-winning station newspaper,<br />
Tester, and this station guide. Public<br />
affairs professionals also tell the<br />
<strong>Patuxent</strong> <strong>River</strong> story off station through<br />
their liaison with local, regional and<br />
national print and broadcast news<br />
media.<br />
The Public Affairs Office is also<br />
responsible for releasing information to<br />
outside news media.<br />
Public Affairs also manages an<br />
active station tour program for<br />
<strong>com</strong>munity groups, giving taxpaying<br />
citizens the opportunity to see and<br />
hear about <strong>Patuxent</strong> <strong>River</strong>’s mission<br />
firsthand.<br />
Public Safety<br />
Public Safety provides advice, guidance<br />
and assistance in all aspects of<br />
Physical Security, Law Enforcement and<br />
OSH Safety and Fire Services. Public<br />
Safety also is responsible for protecting<br />
life and property, preventing crime,<br />
unlawful entry, covert acts and enforcing<br />
laws, instructions, rules and regulations<br />
governing Physical Security, Law<br />
Enforcement and OSH Safety and Fire<br />
Services. Public Safety administers the<br />
physical security, law enforcement, fire<br />
and rescue/disaster preparedness<br />
program; formulates and enforces <strong>com</strong>mand<br />
security procedures; exercises<br />
control over visitors to the <strong>com</strong>plex;<br />
investigates crimes and evaluates investigative<br />
data; provides fire protection<br />
and fire-rescue services; maintains<br />
liaison with federal, state and local law<br />
enforcement agencies; conducts a<br />
<strong>com</strong>prehensive occupational safety and<br />
health program, monitors and tracks<br />
mishap and mishap reporting; administers<br />
an aggressive accident prevention<br />
program; and coordinates occupational<br />
health and medical surveillance<br />
programs.<br />
