Founded in 1729 by an act of the Provincial Assembly,<br />

1812 when the British successfully attacked the city, Fort<br />
McHenry in Baltimore Harbor served as the inspiration to young<br />
Francis Scott Key who wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Today,<br />

Situated in the busy Baltimore Harbor, the 1814<br />
bombardment of this fortress inspired Francis Scott Key, who<br />
was being held prisoner on a British warship nearby, to write<br />

Baltimore’s horseshoe-shaped Inner Harbor, formerly a<br />
neglected waterfront area, has blossomed through an<br />
ambitious restoration and redevelopment program. It is now<br />
a stunning year-round tourism and entertainment center<br />
featuring hotels, shopping, theaters, museums and other<br />
attractions.<br />
