warm-ups, breathing techniques. postures, meditation. and<br />

INTERMEDIATE AIKIDO<br />

This will be a continuing course in Aikido and, therefore.<br />
a prerequisice is at least one semester <strong>of</strong> previous practice or<br />
the January Term course. It is necessary for all potencial<br />
participants to be comfortable with ukemi (falling) as well as<br />
basic Aikido movements. A goal <strong>of</strong> this spring term is to<br />
complete and practice requirements for the 5th or 4th Kyu.<br />
Class will meet Monday and Wednesday, 4:00 p.m.-5:15<br />
p.m., in the RCC. The course may be taken at the discretion<br />
<strong>of</strong> the instructor.<br />

BEGINNING KYUDO. JAPANESE ARCHERY<br />
Marion Taylor<br />
Kyudo, the Way <strong>of</strong> the Bow, has been practiced in Japan<br />
for centuries. The form <strong>of</strong> the practice is considered a type <strong>of</strong><br />
Ritsuzen, or standing meditation. It is <strong>of</strong>ten practiced in<br />
monasteries as an active meditation and contrast to Zazen or<br />
seated Zen. The class will concentrate on learning the Seven<br />
Copordinations or step by step shooting form. The target.<br />
which is only six feet away. serves the archer as a mirror in<br />
order to reflect the status <strong>of</strong> the archer's mind and spirit.<br />

INTERMEDIATE KYUDO<br />

This course will extend to the Hitote or two-arrow form<br />
<strong>of</strong> Zen archery. Studencs will be able to shoot outdoors after<br />
spring break and try longer range shooting. The course can<br />
only be taken by people who have completed aPRA lIS.<br />

BEGINNING T' AI CHI<br />

T'ai Chi is the best-known Taoist movement and martial<br />
art. wich a history dating back at least 1,200 years. Created by<br />
Taoist priests, it is a "cloud water dance," stimulating energy<br />
centers. and promoting endurance, vitality, and relaxation.<br />
The course will stress a good foundation, strength. stretching.<br />
basic standing meditation, and the first series <strong>of</strong> the T'ai Chi<br />
form.<br />
Class will meet Tuesday and Thursday, 12:00 p.m.-I :00<br />
p.m. in the RCC. Enrollment is open. Register by attending<br />

CONTINUING T'AI CHI<br />

This course is for students who have completed the<br />
beginning course. We will develop more standing meditation<br />
for power and vitality. proceed through the second sequence<br />
<strong>of</strong> the T'ai Chi form. and consider applications <strong>of</strong> the<br />
movements. Two-person practice <strong>of</strong> push-hands will also be<br />
introduced.<br />
Class will meet Tuesday and Thursday, 1:30 p.m.-2:30<br />
p.m., in the RCC. Enrollment is open. Register by attending<br />

BEGINNING WHITEWATER KAYAKING (X)<br />

No experience required except swimming ability. Learn<br />
the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> kayaking and basic whitewater skills<br />
including strokes. rescue maneuvering, eddy turns, ferrying,<br />
bracing. river reading, surfing. equipment, and the kayak roll.<br />
Class will meet Wednesday, 1:30 p.m.-2:45 p.m., in the<br />
pool undl spring break. After that. class will meet Friday,<br />
