BEGINNING T'AI CHI<br />

T'ai Chi is the best known Taoist movement and martial<br />
art, with a history dating back at least 1,200 years. Created by<br />
Taoist priests. it is a "cloud water dance," stimulating energy<br />
centers, and promoting endurance, vitality, and relaxation.<br />
The course will stress a good foundation, strength, stretching.<br />
basic standing meditation, and the first series <strong>of</strong> the T' ai Chi form.<br />
Class will meet Tuesday and Thursday, nooo.-1:00 p.m.,<br />
in the RCC. Enrollmem is unlimited. Register by attending<br />
the first class. Five <strong>College</strong> srudems will be graded on a pass!<br />
fail basis and must negotiate credits w.ith their registrars.<br />

CONTINUING T'AI CHI<br />

This course is for students who have completed the<br />
beginning course. We will develop more standing meditation<br />
for power and vitality, proceed through the second sequence<br />
<strong>of</strong> the T'ai Chi form, and consider applications <strong>of</strong> the<br />
movements. Two-person practice <strong>of</strong> push-hands will also be<br />
introduced.<br />
Class will meet Tuesday and Thursday, 1:30 p.m.-2:30<br />
p.m .• in the RCC. Enrollment is unlimited. Register by<br />
atcending the first class. Five <strong>College</strong> students will be graded<br />
on a pass/fail basis and must negotiate credits with their<br />

BEGINNING WHITEWATER KAYAKING (X)<br />

No experience required except swimming ability. Learn<br />
the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> kayaking and basic whitewater skills,<br />
including strokes. rescue maneuvering, eddy turns. ferrying,<br />
bracing, river reading, surfing. equipment, and kayak roll.<br />
This course is the same as OPRA 124.<br />
Class will meet Wednesday. 1:30 p.m.-2:45 p.m., for<br />
pool sessions and, Friday, 12:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m., for river<br />

BEYOND BEGINNING WHITEWATER KAYAKING<br />

This course is for people who have taken the beginning<br />
kayak class, or who have had some previous beginning<br />
instruction. Class II rivers will be paddled to practice the basic<br />
whitewater skills along with fine-tuning fundamental skills in<br />
the pool.<br />
Class will meet Thursday, 12:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Strong<br />
swimming ability is required. (Swim test will be given at the<br />

first class.) To register, attend the first class. Enrollment is<br />
limited to 8. Instructor permission.<br />

POLLYWOG'FROG'FISH-A SWIMMING<br />
EVOLUTION<br />

Becoming a competent performer in the water requires<br />
learning some basic fundamental skills. If you have the desire<br />
to learn to swim. here is the perfect opportunity! This class<br />
will focus on helping the adult student better understand and<br />
adapt to the water environment. We will work on keeping the<br />
"fun in fundamentals," as we learn floats. glides, propulsive<br />
movements, breath control. and personal safety techniques.<br />
This course is taught by an American Red Cross certified<br />
instructor, and is otherwise known as Beginning Swimming<br />
- Levell.<br />
Class will meet Wednesday. 11:00 a.m.- noon, in the<br />
RCC pool.<br />
OPRA 145<br />
LIFEGUARD TRAINING<br />

This course will prepare and qualify you to become a Red<br />
Cross-certified Lifeguard. Bearers <strong>of</strong> this card are eligible to<br />
obtain work at pools nationwide. Successful completion <strong>of</strong><br />
this course will involve the practicing and testing <strong>of</strong> water<br />
carries, swimming rescues. stroke work, water entries. and<br />
spinal management.<br />
Standard First Aid and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional CPR will be included<br />
in the above class format.<br />
Class will meet every Tuesday and Wednesday in the<br />
RCC pool, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Enrollment is limited to 10.<br />
Materials fee $65.<br />
OPRA 149<br />
OPENWATER SCUBA CERTIFICATION<br />
Project Deep<br />
This is an N.A.U.I. sanctioned course leading to<br />
openwater SCUBA certification. One and one-half hours <strong>of</strong><br />
pool time and one and one-half hours <strong>of</strong> classroom instruction<br />
per week.<br />
Class will meet at the RCC pool Monday. 6:00 p.m.-<br />
7:30 p.m., and elsewhere in the RCC, 7:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m.,<br />
for classroom instruction. Fee: $195 plus mask, fins, snorkel.<br />
and text. All other equipment provided. Prerequisite: adequate<br />
swimming skills. Enrollment is unlimited.<br />
OPRA 151<br />
TOP ROPE CLIMBING (A)<br />
Kathy Kyker-Snowman<br />
This course is for beginning and experienced rock<br />
climbers to climb once a week. We will cover basic safety<br />
techniques. rope work. knots, and climbing techniques. Enjoy<br />
the opportunity to exercise your body and mind at many local<br />
climbing areas as well as the indoor climbing wall. Beginnets<br />
are especially welcome.<br />
Class will meet Tuesday, 12:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Enrollment<br />
is limited to 12.
