forces.<br />
Communications Staff Section. Ensure provision and maintenance of<br />
multiple voice and data communication network with higher HQ and<br />
subordinate elements with redundancy.<br />
• Protection. The <strong>Battalion</strong> HQ and Support Company will be co-located<br />
with an ICG which will provide incidental protection.<br />
• Quick Reaction. The <strong>Battalion</strong> HQ at all times will maintain one Quick<br />
Reaction Team capable of executing special tasks. At each COB, a Platoon<br />
QRT will be maintained by respective companies to be employed by <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Battalion</strong> HQ. The ICG co-located with <strong>the</strong> <strong>Battalion</strong> HQ will act as Quick<br />
Reaction Force.<br />
8.3.5 : Support Company. The Support Company comprises 130 personnel<br />
consisting of eleven (11) Officers, twelve (12) Warrant Officers, fifty<br />
(50) Non Commissioned Officers and fifty seven (57) enlisted personnel.<br />
Being specialist in nature, all ranks of <strong>the</strong> company should be qualified in<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir respective functional specializations. The composition of <strong>the</strong> Support<br />
Company is given below:<br />
• Company HQ. Responsible for providing operational support (with enablers)<br />
and logistics cover to <strong>the</strong> battalion under self-sustainment and<br />
coordinates <strong>the</strong> provisioning of UN mission support as per <strong>the</strong> MOU.<br />
• Mortar Platoon. The platoon is equipped with six <strong>Infantry</strong> Mortars for<br />
providing indirect fire support and illumination cover to <strong>the</strong> battalion<br />
COBs. Based on <strong>the</strong> operational requirements and commander’s appreciation,<br />
<strong>the</strong> mortar platoon may ei<strong>the</strong>r be centrally kept or deployed at<br />
section level at COBs. The platoon operates under <strong>the</strong> Operations Staff<br />
Officer. At least 25 percent of Officers and WOs should be trained as Mortar<br />
Fire Controllers.<br />
• Engineer Platoon. The Engineer Platoon operates under <strong>the</strong> Operations<br />
Staff Section. It provides and coordinates field engineering support to<br />
all COBs/TOBs and OPs, provides and maintains water supply and wastewater<br />
treatment systems, sets up solid waste (including hazardous) segregation<br />
areas, manages and provides electricity (static and generator<br />
based, including containment basins), maintenance of accommodation<br />
and allied infrastructure, emergency mine, IED and UXO clearance and<br />
provides engineering assistance to CIMIC/welfare activities as part of<br />
