<strong>MEDIA</strong> Desk Belgium – Flemish Community is<br />

one out of 42 representing offices of the <strong>MEDIA</strong><br />

Programme of the European Union in Europe. Since<br />

2004 there is in 30 countries a <strong>MEDIA</strong> Desk active.<br />

The <strong>MEDIA</strong> Desk gives information about and advice<br />

on the <strong>MEDIA</strong> Programme of the European Union.<br />

The <strong>MEDIA</strong> Desk maintains intensive contacts with<br />

the central organization of the <strong>MEDIA</strong> Programme<br />

in Brussels and with the <strong>MEDIA</strong> Desks and Antennas<br />

in the other member states.<br />

The <strong>MEDIA</strong> Programme (<strong>MEDIA</strong>: Measures<br />

pour Encourager le Developpement de l’Industrie Audiovisuelle) is a six-year<br />

programme to strengthen the competitiveness of the European film, TV and<br />

new media industries and to increase international circulation of European<br />

audiovisual product. In 2007 the current <strong>MEDIA</strong> Programme was launched. It<br />

commenced on 1 January 2007 and runs to 31 December 2013. With a budget<br />

of 755 million <strong>MEDIA</strong> 2007 supports professional training, project development,<br />

the distribution and promotion of European audiovisual work and pilot projects.<br />
