Boris Debackere is interested in joining forms of<br />

expression. He takes a particular interest in the<br />

applicability of electronic sounds and images. His<br />

most recent work focuses on the translation and<br />

transformation of the concept of cinema into live<br />

cinema and audiovisual installations, exploring for example the relationship<br />

between the viewer and the screen in reactive installations such as vortices<br />

(2006) and Probe (2008). In 2008, Debackere initiated the research project<br />

The Cinematic Experience (2007), which resulted in a series of lectures and<br />

a publication edited in collaboration with Arie Altena. He collaborated with<br />

a number of artists, producing the sound design for Run Motherfucker Run<br />

(2004) and Beijing Accelerator (2006), two installation works by Marnix de Nijs,<br />

the feature film The Last Conversation (2009) by Noud Heerkens and the video<br />

pieces a.m./p.m. (2004), Proof of life (2005), Capsular (2006), Futur Antérieur<br />

(2007), Alltogether (2008) and Black Box (2009) by Herman Asselberghs. He<br />

is currently working at the Transmedia department of Sint-Lukas Brussels<br />

University College of Art and Design (see also section on Training, Education<br />

and Research) and is a lab manager at V2_ institute for the unstable media.<br />

He collaborated with Brecht Debackere for the Live Cinema performance rotor<br />

(2005), and for Vector (2010).<br />
