LIST OF ACRONYMS Like any organisation, SLSA has its own usages, terminologies and acronyms. These have developed over the past one hundred years, to the point they are sometimes confusing to our own members, let alone to others outside the movement. This simple glossary contains acronyms used and simple defi nitions of word used in this annual report. See below for further explanation. Refers to the organisation, including SLSA, state centres, branches, support services and clubs e.g. ‘The economic and social value of Surf Life Saving in Australia has been conservatively estimated at $1.4 billion each year’. On 19 October 2007, ‘Memorial to the Surf Lifesaver’, by Sydney sculptor Sasha Reid, was unveiled at Hunter Park, Bondi. The sculpture commemorates the surf lifesavers who have died while performing rescues and those who have died while patrolling, competing or participating in other surf lifesaving activities.
