Children’s,
to make feeding easier
Infantil,
para facilitar la alimentación
Beginning at six months of age, the majority of infants
can try solid foods along with breast milk. The Brazilian
Ministry of Health (MH) recommends that breastfeeding
continue until the infant is at least two years old. It is
at this stage that mothers begin to mash fruit and cook
special baby foods to develop their children’s sense of
different types of foods. Rice, potatoes and carrots are
some of the ingredients normally used. Among fruits,
papayas, bananas and apples, with their different
textures and flavors, tend to be well liked by young
children.
As children grow, new foods are introduced to their
diet, which prevents them from getting bored with the
same foods and expands their tastes. Vegetables, grains,
meats and seasonal fruit juices vary the flavors of the
meals, and also provoke interest in different colors and
textures. Rejection of certain foods is likely to happen.
It is part of experimentation and not everything offered
will be accepted the first time. When this happens, the
food should not be forced.
It is more appropriate
to leave that food aside
and try offering it again
another day, always in small
spoonfuls. There are studies
that say that the human
sense of taste sometimes
needs over 10 trials to get used to certain foods.
It is important that a child’s diet be prescribed and
monitored by the pediatrician, as it should contain
nutrients necessary to meet the physiological demands
and healthy growth of the child.
It is also important to gradually offer the child
autonomy in handling utensils when eating and cups
when drinking. Therefore, utensils, plates and cups
should be suitable for the child’s age.
As children grow, new
foods are introduced to
their diet, which prevents
them from getting bored
with the same foods.
crece, nuevos alimentos
se introducen en su
dieta, lo que evita la
monotonía alimentar.
