Es este el eje medular del Segundo Acto, la
génesis de marcas relojeras, de fabricantes y
‘ensambladores’ de relojes. Hoy en día el comprador
o el coleccionista enfrentan el dilema de
escoger de entre una gama de relojes que van
desde las casas tradicionales de relojería, pasando
por las marcas “de siempre” hasta llegar a las
nuevas marcas y a las marcas resucitadas. Y
justamente aquí es donde
la cosa se complica;
pues todo depende en
gustos, en modas, lo
que sí nos queda
claro es que si al
elegir no prestamos
la debida
atención, correremos
el
riesgo de
comprar
una pieza
carente de
una aceptable
relación
entre precio y
calidad.

Nowadays the buyer and
the collector face the dilemma of choosing from an
extensive selection of watches that range from
traditional watch making houses, passing through
the “ever present” brands, to the new and revived
brands. This is exactly where things get
complicated since all depends on tastes and
fashion trends, but what is clear is that if we do not
pay adequate attention when making our selection,
we are at risk of buying a piece that lacks of an
acceptable relationship between price and quality.
So then, what brand to choose, what piece to

propuestas, me pregunto ¿qué lugar ocuparán
todas ellas en el gusto y reconocimiento del
mercado consumidor?, ¿en el de los coleccionistas?
y más aún ¿cómo serán recordadas con el paso del
tiempo?.
En este apartado es importante mencionar a los
relojeros independientes, a esa pléyade de artistas,
inventores y genios que desde 1985, año en que se
fundó la Academia Relojera de Creadores
Independientes (AHCI por sus siglas en francés), al
cobijo de esta ola relojera nos presentan los más
avanzados y poéticos planteamientos de la
relojería.

achieve in the preferences and reconnaissance of
the costumers?, within the collectors market? And
moreover how will they be remembered with the
passage of time?
In this sense it is important to mention the
independent watch makers, that plethora of artists,
inventors and geniuses who, since 1985, the year in
which the Independent Creators’ Watchmaking
Academy (AHCI in French) was founded, nested by
this wave of watch frenzy, they have presented us
with the most advanced and poetic watchmaking
proposals.
The AHCI, thanks to the efforts of its founders
Svend Andersen and Vincent Calabrese, have
managed to bring together under one roof the most
brilliant watch creators of our time, among whom
are: Philippe Dufour, Kari Voutilainen, Vianey
Halter, Robert Greubel, Stephen Forsey, the one and
only George Daniels, Frank Muller, François Paul
Journe, Paul Gerber, Antoine Preziuso, Marco Lang,
Thomas Prescher, Aniceto Jiménez Pita, Christian
Van Der Klauw, Peter Speake-Marin, Félix
Baumgartner, Bernhard Lederer and the Hong Kong
based Chinese Kui Tai Yu. Also deserving a special

quienes trabajan la relojería gruesa, es decir, relojes
de sobremesa, carrillones, reguladores y hasta cajas
de música.
Y bueno, se hace necesario hablar de los
resucitados, marcas que un día dejaron de existir
en los anaqueles y de pronto… de la nada aparecen
de nuevo. Tal es el caso de Cuervo y Sobrinos un
resucitado cubano, que volvió a la vida cuando
Marzio Villa un italiano mayorista de relojes en
España lo descubrió. Lo mismo pasa con Graham,
Arnold & Son, Universal Genève, Eterna, Eberhard,
Armand Nicolet, Waltham, Hamilton, Harwood,
Perrelet, Doxa, Zodiac, Jacquet Droz.
Ante tal frenesí de marcas y marquitas, tenga
mention are Robert Brai, Frank Jutzi and Matthias
Naeschke who work in large time pieces, such as
table clocks, large faced clocks, regulators and even
music boxes.
And so, we need to talk about the resurrections,
brands that one day ceased to exist in history
books and then suddenly… they re-appear form
nowhere. Such is the case of Cuervo y Sobrinos, a
Cuban revival that came back to life when Marzio
Villa, an Italian watch wholesaler in Spain,
discovered it. The same happened with Graham,
Arnold & Son, Universal Genève, Eterna, Eberhard,
Armand Nicolet, Waltham, Hamilton, Harwood,
Perrelet, Doxa, Zodiac and Jacquet Droz.
With such a frenzy of famous brands and
unknown brands, be careful when choosing your
timepieces, before making your buying decision
investigate the manufacturer’s history, or the
characteristics of the piece you are interested in.
Believe me, today’s collector should be well
informed and be very selective in his purchasing
decisions.
And the Third Act? It has already begun and
will become more evident as all the pieces that
come to the market need maintenance, adjustments
and repairs. There is already a shortage of master

cuidado al escoger sus piezas relojeras y antes de
comprar investigue los antecedentes del fabricante,
o bien las características de la pieza de su interés.
Créame que el coleccionista de hoy debe estar bien
informado y ser muy selectivo en sus decisiones de
compra.
¿Y el Tercer Acto? Ya comenzó y se verá que
dentro de algunos años a medida que todas las
piezas que salen al mercado necesiten mantenimiento,
ajustes y reparaciones. Actualmente, ya
hay una escasez mundial de maestros relojeros
capaces de reparar todas las piezas que hay en el
mercado. Imagine Usted todas estas complicaciones
micro-mecánicas, todas estas nuevas marcas, casas
pequeñas con poca capacidad de servicio postventa,
o bien los fabricantes que han quebrado por
la crisis financiera ¿quién va a cumplir con las
garantías, los servicios, las reparaciones, las piezas
de recambio como los extensibles y correas?
Voilà el Tercer Acto
ha comenzado…
