Capítulo 2also received their prizes. Thirteen schools receiveda computer each, and in the same way as previousyears, schools from the interior of the Province werealso on the podium. In this occasion, it was the turnfor Quines, Tilisarao, Justo Daract, Villa Mercedes, andBuena Esperanza. There was still another surprise, which was in theend the biggest attraction of the party. From a densesmokescreen, a character wearing an exact replica ofan astronaut outfit emerged, anticipating what was tocome with the second trip to the NASA. Flashes of photographsdid not stop even for a second, neither did theovation. And this is how the ceremony ended. But therewas still much more. The Kennedy Space Center was tohost a new group of students from San Luis.On Saturday, February 7th, and again from the Instituteof Technology of the ULP, the young studentsembarked on their trip to the NASA.The countdown announced the imminent launch of aspace shuttle from the Kennedy Space Center, in Florida.Eleven young students that the ULP awarded fortheir outstanding performance in the 2008 Olympiadsboarded a flight simulator. They also contemplate thelaunch pads, which support immensely high temperatures. As if there was still a lack of adventures, the kids got tosit for lunch with Roger Crouch, an astronaut who hasbeen six times to the space and who told them abouthis fantastic experiences and also offered himself forhundreds of pictures with took a tour of the kids. Thestudents also visited a memorial in honor to those astronautsthat dedicated their lives to space, and touredthe museum where the honored Apolo shuttles, iconsof space travel, are on exhibit. In a second visit, the group had a more exciting experience.Kids handled the commands onboard a shuttleto explore the cosmos. They simulated space expeditionswith different outcomes. They all worked withmanuals and in teams of fifteen people. Some wereonboard the shuttle and some other were in chargeof giving instructions and other roles from the land. One of the missions landed successfully, following theinstructions of an American commander. The othermission, however, turned out differently. ‘Houston, wehave a problem’, said repeatedly the communicationOlimpíadas | 47
