1.1.2 Norms
As there were conflicts about
the compatibility of cards and
the integration of different systems,
it was established a Normalization
to define the main
characteristics of contact-less
cards and avoid conflicts.
The first norm is the general
norm for Cards and Personal
Identification, which range of applications
are shown in the following
chart.
The access control cards are
based in ISO 7810 norm which is
divided in two applications: contact
cards and contactless cards.
And finally the norm that applies
to contact-less cards for transport
use is ISO14443.
The ISO 14443 norm has four
main chapters:
• Chapter 1: Physical Characteristics.
(ISO/IEC 7810-1)
• Chapter 2: Radio Frequency
interface.
ISO Frequency compatible:
ISO 14443 A
ISO Non Compatible:
Tipo C (SONY)
• Tipo D (OTI)
• Tipo E (CUBIC)
• Tipo F (LEGIC)
• Tipo G (HUAHONG)
• Chapter 3: Initializing and anti
– collision.
• Chapter 4: Transmission Protocol.
The most commonly used contact-less
cards are the following:
• TypeA: Mifare Ultralight, Mifare
Each norm establishes the main parameters according to the
following figure:
