Abstract:
Territorial strategies oriented to the attraction of productive investments in search of
localisation induce the distinction between to types of investments according to their
endogenous or not origin. All the firms are born in a territorial context, then qualify an
enterprise as "allogenous" infers that, at a given moment of its history, such a firm has been led
to grow apart from this territory of origin, in order to initiate an enlarged spatial spreading out.
This phenomenon represents one of the major aspects of globalisation process. The Gemplus
Card case, that is exposed in this paper, is the one of an enterprise born is a very actual
territorial context. Its success and its rapid growth have pushed it to define a global
development strategy, at a world level, then to take distances with its territory of origin, while
drawing closer to other territories, in other continents. Perpetuation of its initial territorial links
would depend from the ability of the territorial fabric to contribute to the dynamics of
innovation Gemplus is engaged in.
