MAINTENANCE 66ENExcessive tire pressure reduces grip on the roadand increases the risk that the tire will unexpectedlyburst. Inflation pressure that is too low reducestire performance and increases the probabilityof detachment of the tire from the rim, resulting insudden and unexpected loss of tire pressure. Inaddition, premature wear and damage to the rimmay occur. These conditions can cause loss ofcontrol of the motorcycle, resulting in an accident,personal injury or death.Before riding, it is therefore necessary to measurethe tire pressure at room temperature. Thevehicle must be parked at least three hours.Moreover, it is extremely important to check thewear of the tires before riding. In fact, a worn tirecan be punctured more easily than a new one,and it can adversely affect handling and stabilityof the motorcycle.Always check the depth of the tire tread. The treaddepth must always be at least 1/8 inch (3 mm).Verify the absence of crevices at the bottom of thetread design and fissures on the tire sidewall.Moreover, verify the absence of nails and glasssplinters in the tire. If you see any evidence orwear, have the tire replaced by an authorized MVAgusta dealer.WARNING• Never ride your motorcycle if the tiresare cut, cracked, leaking or if there isdamage to the tread or sidewall. Neverride your motorcycle if the tires are notproperly inflated. If the tires of yourmotorcycle are worn, have themreplaced by your MV Agusta dealer.• If a tire is punctured it must bereplaced, not repaired. A repaired tireprovides a restricted performance andlower safety levels than a new one. Ifyou make a provisional or emergencyrepair to a tire, you must ride at verylow speed until you reach the nearestMV Agusta dealer and have the tirereplaced. With a provisionally repairedtire, never exceed 60 km/h (35 mph).- 137 -
