MAINTENANCE 66.18. BatteryYour motorcycle is equipped with a maintenancefreebattery, which is installed under the tail section.This battery does not require checking of thefluid level or adding of distilled water.If the battery seems to be run-down (causing electricalproblems or a difficult starting), have itrecharged or replaced by an authorized <strong>MV</strong><strong>Agusta</strong> dealer as soon as possible. Rememberthat the battery runs down more quickly if yourmotorcycle is equipped with additional electricalaccessories.WARNINGIf the battery casing is damaged, theremay be a leakage of sulphuric acid, aHIGHLY TOXIC AND CORROSIVE substance.Avoid any contact with youreyes, skin and clothes. Always wearprotective glasses when you have towork near the battery.In the event of a contact with sulphuricacid, give the FIRST AID as describedbelow:• CONTACT WITH EYES: Wash awaywith water for about 15 minutes, andimmediately call a doctor.• CONTACT WITH SKIN: Wash awaywith a great amount of water.• INGESTION: Drink great amounts ofwater or milk, and immediately call adoctor.WARNINGLeakage of sulphuric acid can result inthe formation of hydrogen gas which, ifignited by a spark or a flame, wouldcause an explosion.Always have the battery replaced byyour local <strong>MV</strong> <strong>Agusta</strong> dealer.6EN- 161 -
