Je n’ai pas eu l’occasion de lirecette note mais, jusqu’à présent, j’ai toujours cru que lesFringillinés se distinguaient <strong>des</strong> Carduelinés, entre autres,par l’absence de jabot d’où leur incapacité d’emmagasiner dela nourriture. De ce fait, les Pinsons nourrissent leursoisillons de petits invertébrés (chenilles) qu’ilstransfèrent directement du <strong>be</strong>c et non par régurgitationcomme chez les Carduelinés… (Ruelle, 1988). Il est toutaussi vraisemblable que le mot crop, employé par Harrison,dans ce cas bien précis, s’applique à la nourriture animaleque le Pinson <strong>des</strong> arbres fournit à ses jeunes. C’est à monsens l’explication la plus plausible et la bonne traductiondu mot "crop" en qualité de récolte <strong>des</strong> proies animales etnon jabot. Cette opinon est renforcée par la traduction de39
