Un dimanche, en plein après-midi, du côté du jardin
d’Ambohijatovo ou encore au jardin d’Andohalo, on entend
des sons de tambours, les voix aigües des femmes, des
rires et des applaudissements… C’est un spectacle de
hiragasy qui se joue !
« Hiran’ny andriana » ou chanson des nobles, le succès du
hiragasy remonte au XVIII ème siècle, à l’époque de la royauté,
durant le règne d’Andrianampoinimerina. Hagamainty le
conseiller du Roi avait pour mission de divertir le Roi. Il invoqua
donc les mpihira gasy, les chanteurs du hiragasy pour lui faire
plaisir. C’était aussi un moyen pour rassembler les sujets durant
le discours royal. Plus qu’un spectacle, actuellement le hiragasy
est devenu un patrimoine culturel, la culture malgache y est
véhiculée à travers les danses et les paroles.
A l’époque royale, les chanteurs étaient habillés de rouge,
couleur de la vénération chez le roi. Les tenues sont maintenues,

de hiragasy, un orateur annonce le « kabary vaky sehatra

Vient ensuite la chanson où les paroles sont tirées de la
sagesse populaire. Chaque spectacle renferme une morale,
un enseignement pour les spectateurs. Durant le hiragasy les
chanteurs utilisent des tambours, des flûtes et aussi des violons
pour divertir la foule. Un spectacle dure environ 1 heure à 2
heures de temps.

which is played!
“Hiran’ny andriana” or noble song, the success of the
hiragasy goes back to the 18th century, during the period
of royalty, during the reign of Andrianampoinimerina.
Hagamainty, the King’s counselor, had the mission of
entertaining the King, so he invoked the mpihira gasy, the
singers of the hiragasy to please him. It was also a means of
gathering the subjects during the royal speech. More than a
show, the hiragasy has now become a cultural heritage, the
Malagasy culture is conveyed through dances and lyrics.

In the royal period, the singers were dressed in red, the colour
of veneration to the king. The outfits are maintained, apart from
the colour, the women wear dresses in flamboyant colours while
the men put on long red shirts. Before starting the hiragasy
show, a speaker announces the “kabary vaky sehatra” a welcome
speech to the audience. Then comes the song where the words
are taken from popular wisdom. Each show contains a moral, a
teaching for the spectators. During the hiragasy the singers use
drums, flutes and also violins to entertain the crowd. A show lasts
about 1 hour and a half to 2 hours time.
