Le premier festival
Baobab-Fosa
souligne la valeur de
l’écotourisme pour
la conservation
La première édition du
Festival Annuel Baobab-
Fosa, qui s'est déroulée
le week-end du 21 juillet
dernier en collaboration
avec WWF, avait pour but
d’engager les jeunes et d'aider
la population locale à apprécier
la valeur de l'environnement par
l’expérience. Les habitants et
les touristes se sont déplacés
pour voir l’animal qui a donné son nom au festival, le “Fosa,”
en plus d’autres espèces floristiques et faunistiques durant
une visite du parc de Kirindy. Les randonneurs ont ensuite
profité de l'autre aspect du nom du festival alors qu'ils
savouraient du jus de baobab en contemplant l’Allée des
Baobabs.
Le festival est un puissant rappel du lien entre la culture
locale et la conservation. Hoséa Randriamanantena,
directeur de Office Régional du Tourisme du Menabe, espère
« que la collaboration avec l’ONG WWF va porter ses fruits...
et que les touristes découvriront la destination Menabe’’.

The First Annual Baobab-
Fosa Festival in the
Menabe region, held
over the weekend of
July 21 in collaboration
with WWF, strove to show the
local population the value of the
environment through experiencing
it. Both locals and tourists got to
witness the festival’s namesake, the
fosa, in addition to other endemic
flora and fauna during a visit to the Kirindy Reserve. The
hikers later enjoyed the other aspect of the festival’s name as
they sipped baobab juice while looking out over Baobab Alley.
The festival served as a powerful reminder of the necessary
relationship between conservation and culture. Looking back
on the festival, Hoséa Randriamanantena, the director of
the Regional Tourism in Menabe, had a sense of pride in the
accomplishments and hope for the future of the festival. “We
hope that the collaboration with WWF will bear its fruit,” he
reflected, “...and tourists will learn about the destination of
Menabe.”
