A place likely to take a St. Martin native by surprise? One that
might feel out of the ordinary or shed a different light on your
island?
Let’s say, Petites Cayes, Wilderness on a late afternoon – around
5 or 6 pm depending on the time of the year. With the sun grazing
over hill tops and making for a splendid light – and when the swell
is good, it is the place to be! One to sit back and watch surfers
doing their thing…
Another location? Vantage points. Those which are not easy to
access or that a St. Martin native might not take time to visit on
a daily basis. My favourite one is definitely the Baie Rouge Cliffs
– although relatively dangerous – because all the way down lies
a beach that is usually free of people, except for a few swimmers
when the sea is very calm. It is somewhat of an unchartered place
that I discovered on the late, despite the fact that it isn’t far from
where I live. I wound up there out of chance, just because I wanted
to see where a tiny trail would take me…
Another place that I have highlighted in the past and that a lot
of people do not know of, is Lovers’ Beach – a small cove that is
usually shot from the sea. There are also the Cupecoy Caves that
I like to shoot from inside; they are so visually striking! And many
people find the place to be very romantic… Just walk along the cliffs
and it is pretty easy to get there – but only when the sea is calm!
The first three words that come to mind to define your island?
Colours, melting-pot and… home! This island belongs to any and
all who love it, are building something and paying attention to its

Disons, Petites Cayes, Wilderness en fin d’après-midi – vers 17-18h
selon la période de l’année. En fait, le soleil rase les collines, donnant
une superbe lumière et quand il y a des vagues, c’est le must ! Tu
peux t’asseoir et regarder les surfeurs…
Un autre endroit ? Les points de vue. Ceux qui ne sont pas faciles
d’accès ou qu’un Saint-Martinois ne prendra pas forcément le temps
d’aller visiter, au quotidien. Mon préféré reste les Falaises de Baie
Rouge – bien qu’un peu dangereux – car en contrebas se trouve une
plage toujours déserte, sauf quand la mer est très calme et que les
gens ont envie de nager. C’est un endroit qui n’est pas connu et que
j’ai découvert très tard, bien que je n’habite pas très loin. J’ai atterris
là-bas par hasard, en me demandant où menait un petit chemin…
Un autre endroit que j’ai mis en avant et que les gens ne connaissaient
pas forcément, c’est la Plage des Amoureux – une petite crique
qu’on ne montre souvent que par la mer. Il y a aussi des Caves, à
Cupecoy, que j’aime prendre de l’intérieur : ça attire beaucoup l’œil !
Et beaucoup trouvent le lieu très romantique… Il faut longer les
falaises et c’est assez facile d’accès – mais uniquement lorsque la
mer est calme !
Les trois premiers mots qui te viennent à l’esprit pour définir ton
île ?
Couleurs, mélanges et… la maison ! Cette île appartient à tous ceux
qui l’aiment, qui y construisent quelque chose et prêtent attention à
son environnement, sa beauté…
