natural environment, its beauty… Here, a newcomer will encounter a
one of a kind island where French, English, Spanish and Creole are
spoken… sometimes, all at once! [laughs]
It is a wee land made of a bit of everything. For a taste of local
food, you just need enter a random shack in Grand Case or visit
Enoch’s on the Marigot seafront – it
is loud and attracts people from all
around. Looking for a more gourmet
option? Head straight to Grand Case
to find excellent restaurants such as
the Pressoir, the Barranco, Temps des
Cerises, the Rimbaud… If I want to amaze
a tourist with a little piece of heaven on
the island, I would send them to Pinel
for instance, or maybe Karibuni, where
you can walk right by the water and see
people picking and grilling their lobsters… Whether you go for a
stroll along Simpson Bay or Orient Bay, or even go for a shopping
spree in Philipsburg, it is so diverse! And that’s the real St. Martin.

Quelqu’un qui y vient pour la première fois trouvera une île unique
en son genre, où l’on parle le français, l’anglais, l’espagnol, le créole
et… parfois tout à la fois ! [rires]
C’est un petit territoire fait d’un peu de tout. Pour manger local il
suffit d’aller dans un lolo de Grand Case ou chez Enoch sur le front
de mer à Marigot – où ça parle assez fort,
avec beaucoup de monde venu de tous les
horizons. Une envie plus gastronomique ?
Direction Grand Case avec de très
bons restaurants comme le Pressoir,
le Barranco, le Temps des Cerises, le
Rimbaud… Si je veux émerveiller un
touriste avec un petit bout de paradis sur
l’île, je l’enverrai à l’îlet Pinel, par exemple –
ou peut être au Karibuni, où tu marches le
long de l’eau avec les gens qui choisissent
leurs langoustes, les font griller… Que tu ailles te balader à Simpson
Bay ou sur la Baie Orientale, voire faire du shopping à Philipsburg,
c’est tellement varié ! C’est ça, Saint-Martin.
