«Your supermarket in paradise!» to quote Super U Saint-
Barth’s Facebook page. Nestled in a quiet corner of St
Jean, this local store celebrates its first anniversary in
March 2021, which is an opportune time to find out how
it all began, through an interview with Julie Chevreul,
partner of U and president of the operating company.

The Commuter - Julie, a family saga led to the creation of Super
U Saint-Barth; can you tell us more about this?
Julie Chevreul - It was certainly an adventure! I had been
working for the ‘Système U’ chain of convenience stores since
1996, experiencing all the product areas and job levels of a supermarket.
My older brother came to St Barts in 2000; and I
followed him in 2005, albeit with the intention of closing the
chapter on this profession. I had a series of temporary jobs until
2010, when my family bought the supermarket, Match, and I
subsequently took over the management. The same year, our
younger brother joined us on St Barts and assisted with the
day-to-day management. However, we found the building to

à la création de Super U Saint-Barth. Pourriez-vous nous raconter
son histoire ?
Julie Chevreul - Une aventure en effet ! Je suis dans le commerce
de proximité chez système U depuis 1996 et suis passée
par tous les rayons et échelons d’un magasin alimentaire. Mon
grand frère s’est installé à St Barth en 2000 et je l’ai suivi en
2005, à l’origine pour couper avec ce métier. En arrivant j’ai
cumulé des petits emplois jusqu’en 2010 : quand ma famille rachète
le supermarché Match, j’en prends la direction. La même
année, notre petit frère nous rejoint à St Barth et m’aide au quotidien.
Dès 2011, nous nous trouvons à l’étroit dans les locaux
