Another type was the shoulder bag, just to be
flung over one shoulder. Yet another type turned
out to be the winner: the long, wide, voluminous
sports bag like the ones sport idols carry with
ostentation when they go to their athlete’s club or
fitness studio. Look at the many useful or useless
accessoires on the outside or inside of your bags:
Pockets or nets for the cellular (we say handy),
specialized compartments for water bottles, tea
or soft drinks (a modern fad of being afraid to
suffer from dangerous dehydration within a couple
of hours).
There are many more adjuncts, like the handy
telescopic umbrella (which we call knirps and
others tot, dwarf, tiddler, hop-o’-my thumb or
titch), specialized receptacula for your laptop,
writing equipment, name tags and the like to
accommodate our many modern office utensils
of today.
he colors

National and continental tastes have
yielded a wide spectrum of colorful birds. Some
are dark, black, grey, or deep blue, rather triste.
Others pick up the colors of the fashion season,
with shining spectral distribution as if to honor
Joseph von Fraunhofer (1787-1826), the German
physicist and describer of the color spectrum.
One must admit that some dieners are beautiful,
as if the top fellows from Milan or Paris had
their hands on the design. Logos of societies,
silhouettes from the hosting city, or state symbols
often take a prominent position on the
front or back side, with silver or gold embellishment.

Like authors authorize their scientific
papers, organizations or societies identify themselves
on the bag. They give it a name to be
known now and forever. Some of the insignia
(an analogy to a book plate or ex libris) are really
beautiful.
The AAD, or the European Academy of
Dermatology and Venerology (EADV), like many
major organizations worldwide, produces every
year another composition, printed in color on
the material, or sometimes stitched with accuracy.
It names the meeting, year, and dates of
the convention, plus the hosting city.

modello simile…”. Questi eleganti articoli, forse
per ragioni fiscali, sono oramai “spariti” dai congressi.
D esign
La forma standard è quella della classica
della “busta” o della “carpetta”, originariamente
senza manici. Col passare degli anni, sull’onda
delle più moderne tendenze, sono arrivati gli
zaini. È stata una bella trovata, molto apprezzata
sia dalle vecchie, sia dalle nuove generazioni. Un
altro tipo di zaino è quello “a tracolla”, che lascia
un braccio più libero nei movimenti.
Un altro modello ancor più “à la page”, è la sacca
sportiva di grandi dimensioni, simile a quelle
usate dai divi dello sport che la portano con una
certa ostentazione, quando si recano in palestra o
nei loro club super-esclusivi. È interessante
curiosare fra gli accessori, più o meno utili, fuori
e dentro le nostre borse: tasche e reti per il – o –
i cellulari (in tedesco handy n.d.t.), speciali scomparti
per le bottigliette d’acqua, per il tè o per le
bibite (l’ultima moda impone l’assoluta necessità
di avere la bottiglietta d’acqua sempre a portata
di mano, per non incorrere in una grave disidratazione,
se non si beve per un paio d’ore!). Altri
accessori sono gli ombrelli portatili (hanno tanti
nomignoli knirps, dwarf, tiddler, hop-o’-my thumb,
titch). Oramai indispensabili sono gli speciali
“receptacula” per il computer portatile, per le
penne e le matite, per la targhetta col nome e per
tutti i più moderni accessori d’ufficio che si
usano oggi.
I colori
I gusti nazionali ed internazionali forniscono
un’ampia gamma di colori. La maggior
parte delle borse sono scure: nere, grigie, blu
scuro, invero piuttosto tristi. Altre si ispirano alla
moda stagionale, con una scintillante rassegna di
tutti i colori dello spettro, forse in onore di Joseph
von Fraunhofer (1787-1826), il fisico tedesco scopritore
dello spettro luminoso. Bisogna ammettere
che alcuni “dieners” sono veramente straordinari,
come quelli “supergriffati” di Milano o Parigi.
Nella parte anteriore o posteriore del nostro “fedele
servitore”, fanno bella mostra di sé i loghi delle
società scientifiche, le immagini della città o i
simboli della nazione ospitante, impreziositi di
decori argentati o dorati.
