Tavola III L'esempio mostra <strong>in</strong> che modo i dati, che costituiscono le notizie bibliografiche di s<strong>in</strong>gole manifestazioni nel formato MARC21, possono generare un elenco articolato gerarchicamente delle edizioni di un'opera. In particolare, la struttura gerarchica comprende c<strong>in</strong>que livelli di dati: • la citazione dell'opera (titolo uniforme accompagnato, ove esista, dal nome dell'autore <strong>in</strong> forma normalizzata; campi gestiti dall'archivio di autorità); • schede-guida per le diverse espressioni dell'opera (titoli redazionali <strong>in</strong> forma di str<strong>in</strong>ghe costanti, generate automaticamente a partire dal contenuto del leader e dei campi di controllo a struttura codificata); • la descrizione delle diverse manifestazioni di ciascuna espressione: o titolo, edizione (campi 245, 250) o pubblicazione (campo 260) o descrizione fisica, numero standard (campi 300, 02X). Si tratta del numero m<strong>in</strong>imo di <strong>in</strong>formazioni bibliografiche la cui conoscenza è ritenuta essenziale perché il lettore possa selezionare la manifestazione di suo <strong>in</strong>teresse. Le altre <strong>in</strong>formazioni relative all'opera (ad esempio, i dest<strong>in</strong>atari), all'espressione (ad esempio, la scala e la tecnica del rilievo) e alle relazioni con altre opere, espressioni e manifestazioni, vengono presentate nella notizia completa <strong>della</strong> manifestazione. Si noti come il titolo da solo non sia sufficiente ad identificare un'opera (le tre opere hanno <strong>in</strong>fatti il medesimo titolo proprio). Occorre preservare, più che mai all'<strong>in</strong>terno di un sistema bibliografico di tipo relazionale, quello che Serrai def<strong>in</strong>isce "l'<strong>in</strong>sc<strong>in</strong>dibile s<strong>in</strong>olo autore-titolo".
