~~ Intimacy between protag & antag: they both want or
need the same thing: love, to win the race, etc.
Character vs. Character
~~ Two characters want something and believe only one
can have it.
~~ One character has something and another wants to get
it from him/her.
~~ One character is about to have something and another
wants to prevent him/her from getting it.
Character vs. Society
~~ When an individual decides to challenge society against
all odds (“you can’t fight city hall”), it creates conflict.
~~ “Society” means “Them”. The Mafia, the CIA, the Nazis,
The aliens, The government: the huge, impersonal forces
that can control, threaten or ruin “us”, our lives or
communities
Character vs. Nature
~~ Geography or natural disaster become the irrational
antagonist as the protagonist tries to reach the safety of
point B from point A.
~~ The source of the conflict may in fact be the “hubris”
(excess of pride, selfishness...) of the one or more
characters who got everyone into such a dangerous spot in
the first place.
