these trains travel along the old railway tracks of<br />
Siena, Grosseto, Pistoia, Florence, Marradi taking<br />
travelers to ancient medieval hamlets vibrant with<br />
food and wine events celebrating the most various<br />
local specialities from truffles to olive oil, to chestnuts,<br />
to wine. Not to be missed is the itinerary<br />
of Mugello for the chestnut festival with a steam<br />
train which, leaving from Pistoia, crosses Florence<br />
and Pontassieve arriving at Marradi. The old steam<br />
locomotive crosses the enchanting, vast and<br />
evocative landscape of Mugello, from the valley<br />
with its millenary-old country parish churches and<br />
country houses up to the Apennines with the via<br />
ducts, tunnels and chestnut and beech-tree woods.<br />
In southern Tuscany another fascinating itinerary<br />
is that crossing the Sienese area. It goes from Val<br />
d’Orcia to Grosseto. The journey, or rather the<br />
experience, usually takes a day. The “Treno della<br />
Vendemmia” (Harvest Train) in October is truly<br />
exciting. Then there are: the “Treno del Fungo<br />
Porcino” (Porcino mushroom Train) arriving at<br />
Turistiche Italiane. Ogni anno questi treni percorrono<br />
i vecchi sentieri ferroviari di Siena, Grosseto,<br />
Pistoia, Firenze, Marradi per portare il viaggiatore<br />
in antichi borghi medievali animati da manifestazioni<br />
enogastronomiche che celebrano le più variegate<br />
specialità locali dal tartufo all’olio di oliva, alle<br />
castagne, al vino. Da non perdere l’itinerario del<br />
Mugello per la sagra delle castagne con un treno a<br />
vapore che partendo da Pistoia, e attraversando Firenze<br />
e Pontassieve, arriva fino a Marradi. La vecchia<br />
locomotiva attraversa l’incantevole paesaggio<br />
aperto e suggestivo del Mugello, dalla valle con le<br />
sue pievi millenarie e case coloniche fino all’Appennino<br />
con i viadotti, le gallerie e i boschi di castagni<br />
e faggi. A sud della Toscana un altro affascinante<br />
percorso è quello che attraversa il territorio<br />
senese. Si va dalla Val d’Orcia a Grosseto. Il viaggio,<br />
o meglio l’esperienza, dura solitamente tutta<br />
la giornata. Emozionante ad ottobre il Treno della<br />
Vendemmia. Ci sono poi il Treno del Fungo Porcino<br />
con arrivo alla stazione di Monte Amiata Scalo<br />
