Fig. 2. Sketch of Tynset. x =- Localities of Capnia bifrons (Newman).
start by the nymphs climbing up on to the snow and wandering
around for a while before shedding the nymph skin. The nymphs,
however, were only encountered a few metres from the stream,
whereas some specimens of adult C. bifrons were found more than
50 metres away. The air temperature at this time was a few
degrees above zero during the day. At Storebekken (fig. 4) only
6 adult C. bifrons were taken on the snow. At Kaldbekken there
were found 15 adults and at Trrnna 1.
16 nymphs of C. bifrons were collected in Saeterbekken and 7
in Skytterbanebekken. 111 both streams there were most nymphs
of D. nanseni (Kempny 1900) besides an considerable number of
Leuctra hippopus (Kempny 1899) and some C. atra nymphs.
Co~zclusion: At Tynset, 169 adults and 23 nymphs of Caflnia hifrons
were found in 3 streams and one river. Thus, the species
seems to be very common in that district. In the two streams
which were examined closely, the stock was largest in Skytterbanebekken
where the amount of dissolved CaO in the water was
highest.
