Preface
The tables in the Statistical Yearbook 1960 have been arranged in the
same way as in the previous edition, except that some tables giving data from
the Census of Agriculture 1959 are placed as additional tables at the end of
the yearbook.
As usual some of the tables in the previous edition have been omitted or
reduced in order to give room to new tables and additional data in certain
tables. Some tables have also been rearranged. The main alterations which have
been made in the current edition are the following:
Geography etc. In table 1 data on some mountains, the largest glaciers and
the longest fjords have been added, while the data on Norwegian possessions
have been omitted. Data on Svalbard are given in table 365.
Vital statistics and migration statistics. A new table 38 on immigration and emigration
1958 has been added, while tables 30 and 35 in the 1959 edition on live
births and deaths per 1000 population by counties have been left cut.
Agriculture etc. The following tables in the 1959 edition: tables 56-61 from
the Census of Agriculture 1949 and tables 66 and 67 on agricultural land and
livestock by counties have been taken out and replaced by 7 tables from the
Census in 1959 (Chapter XXVI). A new table 60 on farm tenure and transfers
1958 has been added.
Fisheries etc. Some of the tables have been rearranged. 3 new tables have
been added: table 96 Open and decked fishing craft with motor by length
1955-1959, table 97 Production of some principal fishing products 1951-1938 and
table 101 on the large cod fisheries by type of fishing gear 1955-1959. Furthermore,
in table 102 on winter herring data on type of fishing gear have been
included. Table 106 on co-operative associations for the sale of fish and some
other tables have been reduced.
Census of establishments 1953. A new table 114 on share capital by industry
and owner groups has been added, while table 118 in the 1959 edition on enterprises
by industry and kind of economic organiz tition has been left out.
Mining, manufacturing etc. A new table 123 on patents, trade-marks and
patterns 1955-56 to 1958-59 has been added. Table 134 in the 1959 edition
on dwellings under construction has been replaced by table 130 on building
construction 1953-1959. Table 122 on monthly index numbers of industrial
production has been reduced.
Trade. Table 133 Quantum index numbers and unit value of imports and
exports has been enlarged, while table 137 in the 1959 edition on imports and
exports by use and degree of preparation has been omitted.
Water transport. A new table 151 on registered motor boats for pleasure
by counties 1960 has been added.
Money and credit market. A new table 213 on deposits over 100 000 kr. in
commercial and savings banks has been added.
Private insurance. In tabl es 222 and 223 in the 1959 edition on the accounts
of life insurance and non-life insurance companies the data on assets and liabi-
