The Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS)
The ships are returning from Singapore
Over the last two and a half
months, the NIS has experienced
a net increase of twenty-five
ships constituting a net tonnage
of 1 707 396.
TONE OLSEN RISNES, Department of Ship
Registration, NMA
Six of the ships were newbuilds from the
East which had not been previously
registered. One of the ships, a bulk carrier,
was built for Panama flag and transferred to
the NIS upon delivery. Six ships changed
flag from Singapore. Nearing the end of
November, the register now consists of 659
ships with a total gross tonnage of 16 523
369.
– We greatly appreciate that so many
shipowners have chosen to register their
newbuildings in the NIS says Ole Kamlund,
acting Registrar with the Norwegian Ship
Registers; It is a boost for the flag. It has not
escaped our attention that more ships now
seem to be transferred from, than to,
Singapore.
