Resumo<br />

PSICOPATOLOGIA DA CRIANÇA NO SUL DA BEIRA INTERIOR (PERSPECTIVA ETNOLÓGICA)<br />

Este trabalho apresenta as vivências <strong>da</strong> população rural <strong>da</strong> região <strong>de</strong> Castelo Branco (concelhos<br />

<strong>de</strong> Castelo Branco, I<strong>da</strong>nha-a-Nova, Proença-a-Nova e Vila Velha <strong>de</strong> Ródão) com a<br />

sintomatologia psicopatológica infanto-juvenil. A análise <strong>da</strong> problemática é feita numa<br />

perspectiva etnopsiquiátrica.<br />

O trabalho divi<strong>de</strong>-se em três gran<strong>de</strong>s áreas.<br />

Na primeira, caracteriza-se a região e a criança no território em estu<strong>do</strong>, que inclui histórias <strong>de</strong><br />

vi<strong>da</strong>, aspectos relaciona<strong>do</strong>s com o trabalho na infância, os maus-tratos infantis e a assistência à<br />

criança.<br />

Na segun<strong>da</strong>, i<strong>de</strong>ntificam-se e caracterizam-se os fenómenos psicopatológicas (perturbações <strong>de</strong><br />

humor; me<strong>do</strong> e estrapasso; perturbações <strong>da</strong> linguagem; perturbações <strong>do</strong> sono; perturbações <strong>do</strong><br />

comportamento; perturbações alimentares; perturbações <strong>da</strong> eliminação; acção <strong>do</strong> sobrenatural<br />

sobre a criança) e os terapeutas (mezinheira /benze<strong>de</strong>ira, barbeiro, padre, médico, mulher <strong>de</strong><br />

virtu<strong>de</strong> / bruxa / benzilhão /sol<strong>da</strong><strong>do</strong>r).<br />

A terceira inclui as consi<strong>de</strong>rações finais a que se seguem as fontes <strong>de</strong> informação e um<br />

inventário <strong>de</strong> termos e expressões frequentemente usa<strong>do</strong>s na psicopatologia infanto-juvenil pela<br />

população estu<strong>da</strong><strong>da</strong>.<br />

Abstract 3<br />

This study shows the experiences of rural population living in the councils of Castelo Banco,<br />

I<strong>da</strong>nha-a-Nova, Proença-a-Nova and Vila Velha <strong>de</strong> Ródão presenting symptoms of infant-juvenile<br />

psychopathology. The analysis was ma<strong>de</strong> un<strong>de</strong>r an ethno-psychiatric perspective.<br />

The study was divi<strong>de</strong>d in two major steps.<br />

In the first one, both region and child were studied in the field, emphasizing their life stories and<br />

several aspects related to work in childhood, abuses and child well care.<br />

In the second step it was ma<strong>de</strong> the recognition and the <strong>de</strong>scription of psychopathologic<br />

phenomena such as humour, fear, language and behaviour disturbances and food and<br />

eradication disor<strong>de</strong>rs. There were also recognized therapists and actions of the supernatural<br />

upon children, such as household and quack <strong>do</strong>ctors, barbers, priests, <strong>do</strong>ctors in medicine and<br />

women of virtue, witches, faith halers and wel<strong>de</strong>rs.<br />

At last, the third step inclu<strong>de</strong>s final consi<strong>de</strong>rations followed by the sources of information and a<br />

list of terms and expressions frequently used in the infant-juvenile psychopathology by the<br />

population un<strong>de</strong>r study.<br />
