Os Eucaliptos e as Aves da Quinta de São Francisco

As outras árvores da Quinta
Descendo, um pouco depois do edifício da Quinta
e das instalações do RAIZ, surge uma primeira
mancha de mata frondosa. Misturam-se os
vários tipos de árvores: carvalhos com as folhas
ainda frescas da Primavera, cedros, ciprestes, os
sempre presentes eucaliptos e outra vegetação
arbustiva. Pelo meio, misturam-se algumas
camélias em plena floração. Seguindo pela
direita, ao fim da descida, no meio de outras
árvores, uma sequóia ergue-se majestosa a
dezenas de metros do chão. Tratando-se de uma
espécie que pode viver por milhares de anos,
este é um exemplar jovem, com cerca de um
século de história para contar.

Walking down past the house and the
installations of RAIZ, we come up to the first area
of frondose woods. Here, we find a mix of trees,
which includes oaks with their fresh spring
leaves, cedars, cypresses, the omnipresent
eucalyptus and other shrubs. Permeating this
area are various camellias in full bloom.
Continuing on to the right and at the end of the
descent, there is a majestic sequoia, rising a few
dozen metres up from the ground amongst other
trees. As this species is able to live for thousands
of years, it is quite a young specimen, given that it
only has a century-old story to be told.
