ABSTRACT
This work aims developing efficient and low cost alternative methodologies in forest
environments providing superior operational facilities in relation to the traditional
ways for measuring water infiltration in soil, superficial draining besides support in
determining others hydrological cycle parameters. The study was conducted in a city
called Tijucas do Sul – Paraná State, between 800m and 1350m above sea level
with local climate conditions according to Köppen classification Cfb. Two
experiments were done: the first one aimed the usage and development of
methodology for determining superficial draining, infiltration and direct vegetal
intercepting through tables or small gutters made of galvanized sheet with the
following measures: 0,98m length, 0,27m width and 0,11m height. It was
implemented five treatments with four repetitions under two different forest conditions
– native forest and Pinus spp plantation, two different spaces – soil and declivity
besides treatment in area without any forest coverage. The second experiment aimed
to compare the usage of a pool of water infiltration meter in small size with the double
rectangular shape or the double rectangle to the standard method – infiltration meter
in double cylinder or double ring shape. It was implemented three treatments in
different forest conditions: native forest, Pinus spp plantation and ornamental woods
in an environmental recovering area. The pluviometer usage in each of the
treatments was as efficient as the Automatic Data Collector Platform in checking the
rainwater levels in the region showing excellent co relations. Infiltration studies co
related to precipitation showed different characteristics in the three groups of rain.
The comparison among the superficial draining averages (Tukey 5%) proved some
differences in forest coverage protection and in the sensibility of the methodology
adopted. The infiltration test with a pool of water infiltration meter made some specific
curve adjustments of infiltration and efficiency comparison in used equipments. The
statistical analysis of the results allowed to conclude the first experiment presented
consistent, sensitive and reliable results in determining: the water infiltration in soil,
the artificial water draining and internal/direct precipitation. Those were evidences of
the method efficiency for the study conditions as well as for the low cost of
implementation and its operational advantage. The achieved results in the second
experiment pointed to operational advantages in using double rectangular infiltration
meter when comparing to the standard method – infiltration meter in double ring
cylinder.
